The NFL seems to love their American Idol contestants.  And by that, I mean a lot of love.  Early this week, Jennifer Hudson performed the national anthem during the Super Bowl's pre-game show in Florida, something equally significant since it's her first public performance since the murders in her family last year.  (We always have to mention that, yes.)  Now, another Idol graduate takes on another football event: David Archuleta has been tasked to sing the national anthem at the NFL Pro Bowl, which will be held this Sunday in Honolulu, Hawaii.

And, judging from the latest blog entry in his MySpace page, the gig is something he's very excited about.  “It'll be my first time in Hawaii!” he enthused, after reminiscing about the snow that's probably falling somewhere in his home state, Utah.  “That means more sunshine.  Well, I hope anyway… at least more hanging out in warmer regions.”

Perhaps it's no pressure for the 18-year-old Idol runner up, as he's had a chance to watch Hudson's much-applauded (and initially slightly controversial) performance at the Super Bowl.  Well, he didn't get to watch it exactly.  “I wasn't able to watch it because I was speaking at a church fireside at the last minute around [the same time],” he wrote.  “However, on my way … I called my friend to listen to Jennifer Hudson singing … over the phone.  It was so good!  Jennifer has pipes!  I watched it on YouTube later.” And, after his performance on the Pro Bowl—which, for those not in the know, is essentially the NFL's All-Star Game—he will get ready for a 20-city solo tour, kicking off on February 24 in Virginia Beach.  But if anything, this stint means that Archie, whether you like it or not, is in that good spot in American culture.  Or at least something like that.  Well, they wouldn't let him sing the National Anthem if he couldn't do it, would they? If you can’t make it to Hawaii on time, you can watch the entire thing on NBC this Sunday.
