1. the Wednesday before the video shoot, the fans were told that the single had been changed from Touch My Hand to ALTNOY. did you have short notice as well?
Not that short, but yes I had already been working on the video for “Touch My Hand” when the word came down that the single was changing to ALTNOY. I wrote out a few concepts and we all got on the phone to discuss. The decision was made to go with the concept you see in the video. David’s management and label did a great job handling it all.

2. fans were asked for concept suggestions. were some of those used? i heard that a fan came up with the idea of his memories coming from his camera. is that true?
This is the first I’m hearing of it, so if an idea was submitted that involved pictures, I didn’t know about it.

3. did David randomly sing a lot on set?
Yes, and I found it very unique and inspiring. With David there is no faking it, no turning it on and off depending on who’s watching, or if the camera’s rolling. He is the real deal. He is a true artist.

4. do you use different directing styles depending on the artist? can you tell us a little about how David takes direction? is he a quick learner?
I do adjust my style a bit depending on how a particular artist likes to work. I found with David that he really listens and takes direction well, so I was able to guide his performance while letting it still be very ‘David.’ David is a fast learner, but more importantly, he is a good listener. He wants to do a good job and he’s a total professional.

5. did David make suggestions and have input into any of the scenes...were there any scenes he was afraid to do but preserved anyway?
Before the video we all sat down with the treatment and David talked about what he liked and didn’t like. He had great ideas about the story, some of which were based on how he felt when he recorded the song. He mentioned a few scenes he wasn’t crazy about, so I took them out. When we got to the actual shoot he really just trusted me, which I appreciated.

6. we heard that David just learned the guitar portion of ALTNOY that day on set for a scene...is that true?
I’ll say that David is an extraordinary musician. I’m not exactly sure how much of it he knew before the shoot, but he practiced a bit on set, and by the time he sat down in front of the camera he was a pro.

7. there are dozens of shots in the vid...did it really only take 2 days?
Technically the video was shot in a day and half. In music video today you have to move very, very fast.

8. was there more than one concept for the video considered, did David have input?
There was, and as mentioned earlier, David had input.

9. is it possible you will work with David again?
I would love to work with David again.

10. the camera seems to love David. from a director's standpoint, is he photogenic?
He is photogenic, but he’s also a great performer. I am a big believer that being good looking only takes you so far. Film has an ability to record not only what is on the surface, but what is within a person. I think part of what makes David so electrifying to watch is that there is great depth to him. There’s a lot going on behind his eyes and the camera picks it up.

11. he's talked about taking acting lessons...did you see any natural acting talent?
Yes absolutely.

12. we know that he "added" shorts into a scene for his Crush video, did he insist on any changes? so that the video would reflect his standards?
Not that I know of. I edited the video as well as directing it, and the changes that were asked for were minor. As I mentioned earlier, we really discussed everything upfront so there were no surprises down the road.

13. the vid is still not on VH1. Can you tell us, how does that usually work? Is there anything the fans can do to get it on VH1?
I’m not sure. It depends on a lot of factors, most of which I don’t know about. It never hurts to call the station and request it. If they get enough demand to play a particular clip, it goes a long way toward getting it played.

14. in a word or two, can you describe him? how he was to work with orwhat you think his greatest strength is?
A lot of raw talent. Talented and kind.
