Better a few days late than never written I suppose…
So June 25th, 2009. Seriously, it was one of the best days of my life. I couldn’t have asked for any more.

At 4 they started signing people in and we got in pretty quickly. We later learned there were 76 of us in total. At the sign in desk, I presented my school ID in which they asked if I had a more official one (and I did but it had my birthday on it) so I said “no” and then they asked how old I was in which I lied and said I was 17. They didn’t really question me much further about it and so we were able to sign in no problem. They then gave us our laminates that said “VIP” on it, got our gift bags (which had a David shirt, poster, picture, and keychain) along with our raffle tickets and waited to head upstairs.
When they checked enough people in, we headed up the escalator and into the crowd-free merchandise shopping. I personally did not buy anything but Nicolette and Gianna each bought a shirt. Then we waited around a little bit longer and then they finally brought us up to the party room. Basically it was 2 small rooms joining together. One room housed tables and chairs and some food (chips, popcorn, ice cream and toppings), and the other would be the place where we would have our meet & greet with David. The 5 of us (me, Nicolette, Gianna, Maria, and Maria’s little sister- this is who I’ll refer to as we), we ate some ice cream and then headed into the other room where they were playing David’s CD and doing David trivia. Then they raffled off the opportunity to ask David a question. 3 people won, nobody that I knew had won, and they had to think of questions to ask David later. Then at 5:30, they brought us to David’s little pre-show piano set. They brought us first to the blue lounge where we got to listen to David doing sound check and we heard him practice “Waiting for Yesterday” which was phenomenal because he did the high note and everything! We all started clapping as soon as he was done so he knew that we were there and he waved to us! Then our ILAA person, Kristin, told us that we could now go down to the seats on the floor to watch him perform and said something to the effect of “no pushing, running, shoving, you have to set the tone for the people behind you, etc.” But of course no one listened. We all started to run to get the best seat. First they let about 6 people go down first and I was able to be part of that 6 but Nicolette and Gianna were not. But they then told the people that they were with me and they let them go down too! So we sat in the 1st row of where they allowed us to sit (which was really about 10 rows from the stage). But as we were walking in, I started to Tweet. This is mostly because I told FOD that I would tweet them updates about what was going on. So I was tweeting and, knowing how David likes to tweet, decided to let David know this. I said to him, “Hey David, I’m tweeting right now!” And he said, “Oh you’re tweeting? Hahaa…I’m…not?” And then I was like, “huh?” And he kind of just shrugged his shoulders and was like “I don’t really know…”
So we sat down in our seats and as we were waiting for the other people to file in and sit in their seats, David was talking a whole lot with us. He asked how many of us there were in which we replied “A lot…like 76!” And he said, “Wow…how did you guys know how many of you there were?” and we said, “Because they told us…” Everything he asked or said was just hysterical. He said alot of stuff that I can't remember...And then I don’t know how this even came up but he then asked us about songs with numbers in them…and then he sang a little bit of “1, 2, 3, 4, Uno, dos, tres, cuatro” and we all just went nuts! he sang snippets of 4 or 5 different songs with numbers in them...and then to foreshadow a little bit, the song “ABC” even came up…
Anyway, then he asked what songs he should sing for us and he ended up singing “Heaven” and then “Crazy.” OMG it was the most beautiful thing I might have ever heard. I got plenty of video of both songs. He really went for it Crazy, especially the ending. He certainly was NOT on vocal rest today. He was absolutely brilliant on the piano and this little showcase proved beyond a doubt that he sincerely is one of the most talented singers out there. Anyone that disagrees honestly has issues that need to be resolved. And during his set, I was also thinking how he sang both these songs for his Hollywood auditions of American Idol. It is crazy to think of how he has come full circle and accomplished so much over the past year and a half.
Before we left the area, David kindly asked that we not put the videos we took of these songs on YouTube so that they can remain special for other VIP people. And of course all of us Archie’s oblige. Then we headed upstairs for the meet & greet.
We all started to line up to get our pictures with David and if we had any gifts (which I did actually, and it was to give him a bunch of letters and stories that other people had wrote), we had to place it on a table and they would get it to David. So we got in line and we were about 4th or 5th. David finally walked in! Oh goodness he’s so good looking! Ackkkk….anyway, me, Nicolette, and Gianna walk up to him to get out picture. I say “hey David!! Can I have a hug” and he goes sure and so WE HUG. He’s so warm! I pretty much hug him for an extra couple of seconds just because I can and I like holding him…hahaa. Then Gianna hugged him and finally Nicolette. We took our picture (I stood right next to him for it and put my hand on the small of his back and he had his hand on mine) and then I turned to him right after it (so our faces were like 2 inches apart) and I said “good luck tonight! Have fun! And thank you so much!!” and he said “Aw, thank you! You have fun too!” And then we had to walk to the back room. But when we got to the back room, we started jumping up and down and screaming and fan-girling so badly but atleast he couldn’t see us.
And that’s when we found out that Michael Jackson had died. Several people had gotten text messages saying it and so it was probably confirmed because it was coming from many different people. We all wanted to tell David because we knew that Michael Jackson was one of his idols but we didn’t get the chance (mostly, we didn’t want to depress him). But now when someone asks me where I was when I heard the Michael Jackson died, I can say I was with David Archuleta.
After he took his pictures with everyone, he came into the room with tables and chairs to answer the questions that the 3 people chosen got to ask. They made it very clear that you could not ask any family related questions. The good news is that I was right in the front of the room so that I got to be right in front of him for all the following events. The first question was if he could sing part of “Somebody Out There” and so he did!!! And I got video! Oh my goodness, he sang it with emotion with his eyes closed and everything and it was so heartfelt that many people were in tears. Then someone asked him if he could be any animal, what it would be. He had no idea what to say about that so then I spoke up ”You could be a hummingbird because you hum so often!” And he goes, “A hummingbird? Yeah, I guess that would be me, but I don’t really know…I guess so!” And then he just kind of nervous giggled. Then the final question was if he liked the shirts that these 2 girls were wearing (the shirts were nothing special). He goes, “Oh they’re nice!” They each said Mrs. Archuleta on it and so some other lady was like, “but there can only be one Mrs. Archuleta!” And David nervous giggled a lot! Then I asked David if I could have a high-five but he kind of looked around and I guess he was afraid to get too close to the crowd in fear of getting pulled and tugged so he kind of just gave an air high-five. Then he had to leave!! It was so sad but I was so grateful for this opportunity in the first place.
Then they raffled off some signed merchandise in which none of us won anything but it was a few signed tour shirts, a signed duffle bag, and signed posters. Then the VIP was all over (after a little hunt to find my phone which I left down on the floor by the stage). We then took our seats and the concert began.
The concert started on time at 7 and KSM was the opening act. I didn’t like them much. But then David came on! His opening with the front screen and the big shadow was EPIC. His opener was Touch My Hand. I swear, every time I see him in concert, his stage presence grows more and more. He interacts with the crowd so much! Then it was Waiting for Yesterday then My Hands. Before he started You Can, he gave a tribute to Michael Jackson. He then he sat on a stool and sang the heck out of You Can. Then he did Works for Me, which is honestly one of my favorite concert songs, then ALTNOY, Don’t Let Go, Barriers, Apologize (on the piano!!!), and then ZERO GRAVITY. Zero Gravity was honestly my favorite performance of the night. He was dancing around stage and going nuts and jumping, and using the shoulder and oh my heck. His finale was Crush which was really cool because it was his first arena tour where he could sing his own songs that I had seen and everyone was singing along to Crush!! I think that is so cool. Then he had to leave but his performance was just beyond anything I had ever seen before, it was incredible.
Then there was a 20 minute intermission then Demi came on! Her mic wasn’t working for her opening of La La Land so she did the song a second time. She was very good, she had a good set and I liked her new songs. She sang about 20. For her song, Don’t Forget, everyone sang along and it was silent in the crowd when no one was singing and it honestly was the coolest thing. Then it was all over. I was pretty depressed but it was one of the greatest days of life I’m so grateful that I got to experience it.
