If you have any information on David Archuleta’s schedule/location for the remainder of his Hawaii trip, please email me at c@capsun.org.

The last few days have been a trying time for me and my fiancee, although more so on her part.  A guy you might have heard of, David Archuleta, has been in town since Thursday.  He came in second in a show on Fox called American Idol and came to Honolulu to perform the National Anthem at the Pro Bowl this past Sunday.  I should point out that the fiancee is a die-hard fan of David’s, so she wanted to get in on the fan action here.

  • At first, she was going to go to the Pro Bowl itself to watch him.  I pointed out that it wasn’t worth it:  the cheapest seats were $45, plus the $12 Ticketmaster fee, so it’s more like $60 per person.  And she was going to go with her two cousins, so that’s $180!  I don’t think she actually cared or agreed with me, and was going to go, with or without my approval.
  • Then she found out on Friday that the NFL Ohana Day at Aloha Stadium was *FREE* and open to the public.  The winds were changing, and so did her plans.  At this point, I’m happy because she was going to save money, so I consented - not that she cared.
  • Now it’s Saturday, and although she did go and get to see David perform and wave to fans, they weren’t actually able to go up and talk to him.  One of his handlers grabbed the leis she bought and gave them to him.  She gave him that orange lei that he wore for his Saturday performance, the one posted all over the internet by his fans. He acknowledged with a smile and nod to my fiancee.  That wasn’t enough, so she and her entourage walked around Aloha Stadium looking for David, to no avail.
  • A little sad when she came home, she started scouring the internet with the determination and results that normally *I* would have.  That’s when the grief started.  She found a YouTube video of another fan who actually got to meet and greet with David, not as part of the contest winners, but just walking around the entrance.  The fiancee was happy for that woman, but outraged that she didn’t go to the entrance to do the same.
  • So now it’s Sunday and we’re at a family birthday party.  The fiancee decides she is going to the Pro Bowl to try for a second time to catch David Archuleta.  She conspired with some of her friends and left the party a little early to get to the stadium in time.  Again, her plans were foiled.  When they arrived, they found out David had left not 10 minutes before they arrived.  More grief.
  • Last night, she tried to find out where David might be today.  She actually has plans to go to the airport to wave him good-bye.  She took the day off to do so. I wanted to tell her she’s crazy, but erred on the side of caution and self-preservation.

So, I do wish her luck today, but I’m not sure she’s going to get her chance to finally see David in person.  I’ve told her throughout the experience that she’s setting herself up for failure and disappointment by trying so hard and getting no reward.

I’ve also been a bit of a jerk with snide remarks and a negative, unsupportive attitude about all this, so today’s post is my form of an apology to her. And not an attempt to generate more search traffic by blogging about David Archuleta, although it did happen in Hawaii, so that does fall into the three categories I blog about.

I should have been more supportive and understanding.  After all, I have a bit of an obsession and addiction with my blogging (both of them!).  So, could you help me make amends?  If you have any information on David’s schedule/location for the remainder of his Hawaii trip, please email me at c@capsun.org. Otherwise, I think she’ll be flying to one of his upcoming concerts.  Had I known that, I would have encouraged her to go to the Pro Bowl.

Mahalo!
