David Archuleta at IN page at The Straits Times

David Archuleta might be known for his big voice and his huge following of teenage fans, but this American Idol alumnus is still a young boy himself, and a positive, hyper one at that. The 18 year old cherubic runner-up of AI Season 7 was in SG last week to promote his self-titled debut album and to meet fans. His album sold 6,000 copies in SG. During his three days here, David performed and signed autographs at Iluma Media and Entertainment Centre at Bugis. IN met the star last Monday for a short chat.

Q: How has you life changed after AI?
David: It’s changed quite dramatically, I guess. A lot more people know who you are. I’m doing people things I wouldn’t have been able to do before. So it is amazing, going on tour, making an album and travelling all over the place. I’m just so thankful for all the opportunities I’ve been able to experience.

Q: How do you handle the fame and attention?
David: First, it was extremely awkward and uncomfortable. You don’t have a lot of privacy anymore because everyone wants to know everything about you. I was a pretty reserved person before but I’ve learnt to really come out of my shell and be more confident in front of people and the camera. I still have issues with talking, as you can see, but I’ve made some progress. I still feel like the same perosn, so I just handle it the way I handle anything new.

Q: Are you dating anyone?
David: No, I’m not dating anyone. I’m, single, still.

Q: How should a girl catch your attention?
David: I think a girl should catch my attention by being herself, being natural. You know, you hear those things when people first meet, they’re so nervous and they’re trying to impress and it still works out from that, but it’s hard when everyone is like that now, you know? People I’ve never met before, they know who I am. I like to when people have a little but of confidence to them. Not in a an arrogant or cocky way, but in a way that they respect themselves. I like it when people love to have fun, are adventurous, like to try new things. I like people who love music, so I don;t think that it is too hard to find someone like that.

Q: Tell us about your first love?
David: Well, during school time I was always afraid, because I was always like ‘oh, I’m not old enough to worry about that’ and I still feel like I’m still young. I’m always afraid of having feelings for someone in the wrong way because you always see these teenage heartaches and its so annoying to me. Because it’s like ‘oh they were my life, now I can’t live without them’. You’re 16, get over it. You’re still in school. You probably don’t even know a lot of things in life, how would you know what love is? That’s what I always wondered, that’s why I stll feel like I’m waiting for the right time. I don’t want to get caught up with it quite yet. I’m sure that I’ll know when I meet the right person because I think there’ll be a different feeling about them. Right now, there’s so much going on, I don’t want to focus on things that I shouldn’t be worried about yet at a young age. But you know, anything can happen, I’m still looking.
