Manila - Two American Idol TV show stars visiting the Philippines for a concert

were told to regularly check their temperatures and watch out for swine-flu symptoms as part of precautionary measures, health officials said Thursday.

Idol winner David Cook and runner-up David Archuleta arrived in Manila on Tuesday from the United States, where more than 3,000 cases of swine-flu virus infection, including three deaths, have been reported.

Edgardo Sabitsana, director of the Health Department's Bureau of Quarantine, said Cook and Archuleta were also told to try to limit their interaction with the public during their activities in Manila.

'We told them to observe social distancing,' he said, but quickly admitted that it would be difficult for the two Idol stars to strictly follow the measure.

Cook and Archuleta have been mobbed by screaming fans since they arrived in Manila. They will hold a concert on Saturday night.

Sabitsana said he led a Bureau of Quarantine team that checked on Cook and Archuleta on Wednesday.

'We took their temperature last night and they were okay,' he said.

Sabitsana said Cook and Archuleta's representatives initially refused to let the bureau's team see the stars, but they agreed when he threatened to cancel the show.

'It took us three hours before we were able to meet them,' he said. 'We had to talk to their lawyer, but I guess they realized we mean business so they allowed us in.'

Sabitsana said he would not hesitate to cancel Cook and Archuleta's concert if any of them or their delegation would start showing symptoms of swine flu.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque said the Philippines remains swine flu-free after all people previously quarantined for symptoms tested negative for the virus.

According to the World Health Organization, there were now 6,497 human cases of influenza A/H1N1 infection in 33 countries around the globe, including 65 deaths in Mexico, the US, Canada and Costa Rica.
