David Archuleta Hopes He Has Time To Write
Jim: Anything you're hoping to do differently on the second record now that you do have time?
David:
Um, write! That's what I'm starting on doing and that's what I'm really
excited about. Just writing. Yeah, b even if it's, like, different
styles of music, because I don't... I like doing different sounding
stuff. But when you write it's like, "Yeah, even though these songs are
different, they're David songs. And you can't say anything different.
You can't say, "Oh, that's not a David song." It's like, "Well, yeah it
is because it's my story and I wrote about it and it's coming out of
me!"
Jim: It's still early, I know, but I'm taking from you that this might be a more personal record, possibly?
David: Personal.
Jim: A little more autobiographical?
David:
I think, yeah, yep, definitely. *big smile* I think so, at least. I
mean, we just started and I don't know what songs will be used and what
won't. But I'm hoping for at least some of the songs I've written this
summer will be able to make it onto the record. I don't think songs
have to be like these super-#1-smash-hit-sounding songs, because I
think it's more important that it's like, "Hey, this is coming out of
me. This is something I connect with. And this is something that I like
to sing." I think those kinds of things are more important. So I hope
that this time around we'll be able to focus on that kind of stuff
more. Even though I'll still look for the radio-friendly kind of music
and stuff.
Jim: Absolutely.
David: But I just, I want the stories to be more relatable to what I want to talk about and to show more personality.
Ohhh,
how I love hearing David talk about music and songwriting. He is so
excited about this album it makes me far too giddy, eee. And I hope
there are many more David/Jim interviews in the future! They make a
swell team. Archiello! :)
