In 2008, on the seventh season of American Idol, a charismatic boy of Honduran descent named David Archuleta, finished second in the competition. And, coming from the United States, the young artist arrived in the country to participate in a series of activities organized by the Enterprise Mentors International foundation, which provides training to farmers in impoverished areas of various developing countries.

On Tuesday night, before giving a talk to young people about values, principles and how to achieve their dreams, the singer, 19, spoke to the media about his visit to Guatemala and his music career.

A tad nervous, David explained that he has arrived in the country to learn about the conditions of poverty that some Guatemalan communities live in, with the intention of promoting programs for development. On this occasion he visited Patzicía, Zaragoza and the village Chirijuyu, in Chimaltenango, as well as Antigua Guatemala. His tour of Central America, which he announced via Twitter, also included Honduras.

Possessor of a great voice

Accompanied by his mother, Lupe Archuleta, the young artist said that music is something that has impassioned him all his life. "I think my voice was a gift God gave me and I must use it in a positive way," he said in halting Spanish.

He is currently working on a book recounting his life, so that his fans can know a little more about him.

"Fame has allowed me to hear the different stories of people, and I want to tell them that we must fight for those dreams, that there is no reason to abandon them," the singer concluded. And as a farewell to the national press, he performed the famous Spanish ballad "Contigo en la Distancia."
